The Timsgarry Byre is located in Uig on the Isle of Lewis. You can travel to Lewis by plane from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, or Benbecula, or by ferry from Ullapool or Uig on the Isle of Skye.
Directions
Timsgarry is a 50 minute drive from Stornoway.
From Stornoway take the A859 south to Leurbost or if travelling up from Harris take the A859 north to Leurbost. At Leurbost take the A858 to Gearraidh na h-Aibhne/Garynahine – then turn left onto the B8011 to Uig. Approx. 20min, passing through the village of Miavaig, you will drive through the narrow gorge of Bhaltos Glen. Once through the glen, when you see Uig sands and the rugged Uig hills, after around a quarter mile take the second right hand turning signposted Timsgarry and Baille na Cille.
If you reach the Uig shop, you’ve gone too far and will need to turn around and take the first turn left.
Timsgarry Byre is next to the road on the RHS after around 1km.

Ferries
Caledonian MacBrayne car and passenger ferries sail from Ullapool on the Scottish mainland to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis and from Uig on the Isle of Skye to Tarbert on Isle of Harris. For holiday makers island hopping up through the Outer Hebrides there are ferry connections between Berneray on North Uist and Leverburgh in Harris.
Book your car on the ferries well in advance because they are often full.
Glasgow to Inverness by train or bus, then bus from Inverness to Ullapool for the Stornoway ferry.
Glasgow to Uig on Skye by bus for Uig-Tarbert, Isle of Harris, ferry.
Book in advance with Citylink or Stagecoach. These buses are often fully booked in summer.
Plane
Operating from Stornoway airport, Loganair has services to and from Benbecula, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.
Inverness is served by British Airways, KLM, EasyJet and Loganair.
Getting Around
Cars can be hired from Car Hire Hebrides or Stornoway Car Hire.
Uig has good bus services, considering it’s remoteness. The Byre is close to the local bus route, a bus stop is within easy walking distance.
Buses from Stornoway will drop you at the door if requested. You can access the bus timetables by visiting the travel and transport pages of the local authority Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
